Small Things with Great Love – Our 2023 Fall Giving Campaign

Sarah Hill with a group of Beautifully Flawed Retreat Attendees

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

Winston Churchill

The greatest experiences I have had in life have been the times I have had the privilege of serving others. In that, I am most fulfilled because I get to see the power giving can have in the lives of those on the receiving end of it.

Both the Forge and Beautifully Flawed retreats for young men and women with limb difference are places where we see lives transformed, hope birthed, and community made. It never gets old seeing how God moves and works as we plan and execute these retreats. Every year we encounter incredible stories through our attendees and seeing how what takes place during the retreats changes their lives as they return home. We hear testimonies often from family and friends of those who attended about coming home from the retreats with a new perspective and a more fulfilled purpose.

These retreats are rigorous, and take so much to plan and execute, but that is not what I think about coming away from them. Each year I am reminded of how God takes care of every detail, even to the point of making sure who needs to be there is there. We get to see attendees become leaders at the retreats and in their own communities, inspiring hope in those around them and in new retreat attendees. To date we have 4 past attendees now serving on our board because they see how important this work is.

None of this would be possible without the community we have that comes together to help make a difference. Each of us come from a different walk of life. We have differences of opinions, life experiences, financial ability, etc. but when we come together, powerful things happen. What a message for this world!

I am reminded of this powerful quote from Mother Teresa: “Not all can do great things, But we can do small things with great love.” When love is our motivation, it breaks down divisions and strongholds paving the way to amazing accomplishments.

As we gear up our Forge and Beautifully Flawed retreats, we are launching our 2023 Fall Giving campaign that highlights our financial needs in order to make these retreats possible. We have seen how our community loves to give to the things that have impacted them directly, whether it be seeing someone overcome an obstacle they thought would never be possible through our surf days, or learning what is possible in the gym despite limb difference. At every corner of the retreats we are reminding our attendees of all that is, not all that is not.

We are so fortunate that every time we have put out a giving campaign, our community has not only met our goal, but surpassed it. We love seeing you all get excited to help us make this all possible. We truly could not do what we do without your help!

So I humbly ask that you take a moment to look over the campaign, and prayerfully consider helping us make this happen. If you have any questions, or would like more details, or maybe are looking for a way your company can give back, please do not hesitate reaching out to our new Development DirectorAmber Berger, as she would be happy to assist you. Thank you so very much for considering this ask!
