Take Heart! – An Easter Message from Sarah Hill

“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have Peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take Heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

Easter is such a beautiful time of year…spring has blossomed, birds seem to be singing a little louder, and there is a warmth in the air. It is a time of celebration as we’ve survived the winter, and are heading into a season so many of us love. Maybe that’s because the days are longer, brighter, and often there seems to be a cheeriness in the air. It is a season for rejoicing and one for remembering.

I also know that for so many, there are not those butterflies flying or birds chirping, maybe the season you are facing is a difficult one. Does that mean you cannot have peace in the midst of difficulty? Certainly not! Relentless faith is often what we must choose when we cannot see the light ahead. In the verse above Jesus reminds us to “Take heart,” or put in another way, find the courage to move forward.

In the midst of hard times we desperately want to find peace, and so often we forget that the source of peace is rooted in the person of Jesus. We are reminded of this peace by Jesus Himself in this verse. What I think is important to point out is that when Jesus said these words, He wasn’t in a season of bliss. He was sharing these words knowing full well that in the days to come, He would face a horrific death. Instead of being stuck in the circumstances at hand, His words were pointing the disciples to the future peace each of us would and can find in Him. “In this world you will have trouble,” He assures us, but the message didn’t end there! The cross would be defeated, and because of this, we can have peace.

No matter the season you find yourself in, we can take comfort knowing what the cross means for you and I. Freedom from sin, peace in Him and hope for the future. With this truth, we can find the courage to keep moving forward.

May you and your loved ones have a very blessed Easter, filled with peace.

Aloha,
