“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

Ephesians 3:20 NKJV

There is always an eager expectation in all of our hearts as we near this special time of year — the arrival of our fall retreats! A whole year of dreaming, praying, planning, and partnering with God in this life-changing work that we get the honor of being a part of. It’s a sense of hope-filled excitement wondering how God will move. Every retreat we are amazed by how He works in a unique and mighty way to meet the needs of each year’s attendees.

It’s with that same faith, that we enter into this season of our 2024 Fall Giving Campaign. For October’s retreats in particular, we’ve experienced several last minute needs which have unexpectedly increased our expenses. Two in particular are the increased need for attendee scholarships and housing. While the retreat cost to our attendees has not gone up, we have more attendees than ever that need financial assistance to attend. As for housing, two large donated homes we’ve used in the past were recently sold, forcing us to rent new homes at a higher cost.

We have learned to trust God to provide for all our needs, but not without the help of our amazing community. We wholeheartedly believe that it is the support of our prayer warriors and generous givers that make this all possible. We eagerly look forward to putting on these life-changing retreats for young men and women with limb difference where they can find community and further the purpose of their story.

Mahalo for being a part of our community and supporting the work we do!

Housing – $20,000

There’s something about a home that brings a sense of belonging, warmth, safety, and love. For this very reason, providing comfortable and beautiful homes for our attendees to stay in at our retreats is a must! These homes are a place where friendships are kindled, where these attendees can laugh, cry, and encourage one another, where they feel safe enough to talk about the realities of living with limb loss/limb differences because they know they’ll be understood on the deepest of levels.

Over the years, we’ve been so blessed to have two homes we typically host our attendees donated to us at no charge. However, in the last few months, these two properties were sold and unfortunately unavailable to us for our October 2024 retreats. In turn, our housing expenses have gone up significantly to cover the costs for renting large enough homes for all our attendees this year.

Attendee Scholarships – $9,000

At Beautifully Flawed Foundation, we will never turn away an attendee for financial reasons. We know that for so many of our participants, attending this retreat has been the catalyst for the breakthrough and healing they have been so desperately needing. For this very reason, we have a giving fund specifically designated for attendee scholarships (both partial and full) so that all can attend the retreats regardless of their financial need. This year in particular, we have 12 attendees needing scholarships in order to attend our October 2024 Beautifully Flawed and Forge retreats — our largest number of scholarship requests to date!

Nutrition $6,000

When giving to this fund you ensure that each retreat attendee experiences the benefit of eating nutritious foods and fueling their body with healthy, balanced meals. Bethany Hamilton’s heart for nutrition and healthy eating is core to our retreat as it plays a vital role in helping our bodies function at its best. We like to teach attendees that healthy eating is fun, and when done right, tastes amazing. We love to instill healthy habits at our retreats as we know just how important it is to take care of your body, mind, and soul.

Surf Day $5,000

Surf Day has become one of the most inspiring days of the retreat experience. A day where barriers are broken, and what seems impossible becomes possible. This fund allows us to provide a team of professional surf instructors who work with adaptive athletes, and are familiar with what equipment is needed to make this incredible day happen. Witnessing the attendees do something they never thought was possible is our why behind all of this. This day is full of smiles, sunshine, and surf boards!

Banquet Dinner $5,000

On the final evening of our retreat, we treat attendees to a beautiful banquet dinner and we don’t hold back on making this a memorable and elegant event! We spend this time sharing stories, telling about our favorite parts of the retreat and ending it with lots of hugs. Your contribution to this fund makes sure that we can offer our attendees a unique and special experience.

Fitness $3,000

Our attendees get a chance to learn from trained fitness professionals that show our attendees tips and tricks to working out as an adaptive athlete. We work with an incredible team of individuals who specialize in Egoscue training, breathwork, and finding different ways people can move, despite their limb difference. For many, it is their first time returning to the gym (or ever!) and we get to see them come to life while experiencing what is possible despite their limb difference.

Transportation (Golf Carts) $3,000

Having the appropriate shuttling needs during our retreats is vital to making our retreats as seamless as possible. Whether it is helping attendees, staff, or items get from point A to point B, having golf carts mean we can get to our next destination faster, Because there are so many working parts at the retreat, having golf carts, especially for our leg amputees who can’t always walk as far, is key. Having golf carts makes all these things possible.

Hair and Makeup for BFR $1,000

Although we teach the values of true, internal beauty at our retreat, we also celebrate the fun of getting dressed up for our final evening of the retreat. Your contribution to this fund helps cover the expenses of our experienced hair and makeup professionals so that our girls get the full “glamor” experience! More than just being beautiful, it makes our attendees FEEL beautiful and radiate confidence. It’s a joy to witness this confidence boost in how they carry themselves after visiting the glam squad.

Special Activity for Forge $500

Bringing our Forge attendees together for a fun team-building activity is a great way for them all to create relationships with each other, foster some friendly competition, and have a time to just let go and enjoy themselves. It could be anything from a local amusement park, mini golf, axe throwing, or paddle boarding. We truly enjoy having a unique activity for everyone to bond over.

Special Moments $1,500

For those of you who have been following us and our Giving Campaigns over the years, this year you will notice a brand new giving fund to contribute to that we’ve fondly named “Special Moments.” As we’ve hosted more and more retreats, we’ve begun to realize there are these “special moments,” little opportunities sprinkled into the busy retreat schedule, to spontaneously bless our attendees, even more! Whether it’s treating all of them to an afternoon coffee drink or making a pit stop at a delicious, local ice cream shop for a fun, evening dessert — it’s these moments that just affirm to our attendees how seen, valued, and truly loved they are.
